Konstantin Atomas and Vasiliy Basalaev have been releasing music as Acos Coolkas since 2006, dropping their first EP on established imprint Force Tracks. The duo now bring us their fourth 12", Solar Wind, on Theomatic. "Solar Wind" envelopes the listener in a slow cosmic wave tinged with glistening synth work; the music touches on the kind of sun-bleached keys and rounded soundscapes of Flying Lotus, transposing those aesthetics onto a house beat. "Planetarium" is a perfect accompaniment, breaking down the beat even further, moving the record into the realm of post-Dilla hip-hop. Fat bass notes come crashing down on the slow rhythm that ebbs and flows beneath more surging chords and angelic synth work.
