After eight volumes, you'd think that the Garage Classics compilations - an occasional celebration of tracks hammered at Larry Levan's legendary Paradise Garage club during the 1980s - would have run out of steam. From the looks of this ninth instalment, it seems they can keep going indefinitely. As usual, there's a mix of stone cold classics - "Promised Land", "It's Alright", "On A Journey", "Someday" etc - and lesser-known, slept-on gems. It's these selections - the likes of Eighties Ladies' bumpin' groove classic "Turned Onto You", Pleasure's low-slung disco-funk jam "Take A Chance" and Unlimited Touch's celebratory "In The Middle" - that excite most, making Garage Classics Volume 9 another essential collection.
